In the last week I have spent some time lending a hand to the Brick Box art organisation as they prepared their new space on Coldharbour lane for its inaugural event. It was good to wake up with a purpose in the morning – I made some tables. I hope to take an active part in this initiative over the course of the summer and an excited at the possibilities I see in the space. After Art Schools crippled form was deemed unsafe for display in the CCW end of year show. I decided to put together an alternative work to present.

The new piece is comprised of documentation in the form of photographs and found objects. The work documents a night I recently spent in the house I grew up in between the ages 3-10. The house is now empty and on the verge of renovation I hadn’t been back since my childhood.

I did not intend to display the photos and objects when I was exploring my old home, but after the collapse of my final project I decided to display the documentation as I felt it was an authentic and current representation of me and my development.

Sustained Tension.

Me and Wing made some spontaneous Sculptures and drawings because we were bored.

Here we created four identical towers from stacking roofing tiles, three collapsed in the breeze within ten minutes but the last one stood for another three weeks before being dismantled.

I feel that the abrupt end of Art School- brought on by its total collapse was a fitting way to leave the project. The project which never quite fulfilled my initial plans and grand expectations died suddenly and violently. In doing so it became a striking monument to my failed/half assed utopian dreams. As a broken and decrepit object the space attained a more interesting and sculptural presence.

It also made me laugh.
